Lawman in Disguise

Getting taken hostage by a gang of train robbers wasn’t in dime novelist Essie Vanderfair’s plans, but interviewing these men could make her career soar. Especially since the gang includes legendary outlaw Tex Beckett, better known as the Texas Titan. Tex is famed for his protection of women and children, so she’ll be fineright?

Keeping the gang in line was hard enough before a stubborn, beautiful writer interfered. Now Tex is scrambling to keep Essie safe, to gather evidence against the gang and most of all to hide his dangerous secrets. First, that he’s a detective working undercover. And second, that he’s not the Texas Titan at all, but Tex’s twin brother, Tate Beckett.

I won a copy of this book from Goodreads.

The Outlaw’s Secret was a pretty fun read, and Essie is a great character. I love how smart and brave she is. I also love how Tate is protective but not annoyingly overprotective. I can’t stand when that happens, and usually end up hating the characters, so i was really happy when Tate wasn’t like that.

The story was interesting and there weren’t any slow or boring parts. Overall this was probably a four star read, but since I’m in the middle of a reading slump I had to bump it down to three. It took me about a month to get through it, which brought the enjoyment level down for me. However, that is my fault and not the books. I have no doubt that if I wasn’t in a reading slump, I would have flown through it in a day.

When I finished reading The Outlaw’s Secret, I was super excited to find out that later in the year we will be getting one about Tex. I can’t wait to read that one.
